 MANAMA: The Economic Development Board (EDB) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to boost co-operation with the US state of Georgia.
EDB chief executive officer Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa sealed the deal with Economic Development Ministry commissioner Ken Stewart. The agreement is part of an EDB roadshow across the US.
The deal aims to maximise the opportunities presented by the Bahrain-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and will see co-operation in key sectors.
These include healthcare, education, energy, life sciences, and research and development.
Other areas of business interest include stimulation via innovation, technology and industry co-operation, financial services, industrial and commercial services, telecoms, media and entertainment.
To promote bilateral trade and business development, both parties will also participate in joint initiatives such as conferences, symposiums, roadshows, workshops, discussion courses, forums, exhibitions and business delegations.
Shaikh Mohammed also held talks with officials at the Atlanta Chamber which provides services for 4000 companies.
Shaikh Mohammed staged a presentation spotlighting the Bahrain's economic credentials and attractive investment environment.
He also highlighted the EDB's crucial role in empowering the private sector, spearheading the right climate to attract value added investments that create jobs for Bahrainis and streamlining procedures.
The delegation also includes EDB chief operating officer Kamal Ahmed, US Ambassador Joseph Adam Ereli and representatives from Mumtalakat, Al Zayani Companies, American Chamber of Commerce, Tamkeen and Bahrain Financial Harbour.
